Arrested for resisting arrest

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

So this 11-year-old girl is hit with a water balloon… naturally, she picks up a rock and throws it at her attacker.

After police respond with three cars and a helicopter she is arrested for resisting arrest (she scratched an officer) and is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. You can read more here.

Okay, admittedly it was a two-pound rock; but the boy’s forehead was only “cut”, not “bashed in with brain showing.” She’s going to be under probation for six months. She was charged with a felony! Does this make any sense at all?

A friend of mine suggested that it could be gender politics: she was too tomboyish for local officials and a male child wouldn’t have the book thrown at them for doing the same thing. Maybe I need another angle on this but this sounds like a huge overreaction to me.

These boots were made for walking…

So I finally got off my ass and posted to Revolution Boots, my new site for rants and raves and maybe, just maybe, a little communication, education and understanding. Check out the site, check out the forum... take a look around. See what you think.

If your comments are good and you seem a decent writer you might even become an author. I’m not interested in people agreeing with me, just interested in people who aren’t flame bait and who can string some sentences together. That’s it, that’s all. Let’s see what happens now.

Terrorists use volcanoes now

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

So I’m digging around on Ready.gov because I enjoy being angry and irritated at my government… apparently, the Department of Homeland Security is worried that terorrists will make use of natural disasters.

I understand that on a website about safety in one’s home one would include info about volcanoes, tsunamis, fires… but the War on Terror isn’t going to cure me of volcanoes anytime soon, right? Because, if the War on Drugs is any indication, we’re gonna have terrorists for a good long while.

I know John Stewart said it before but it bears repeating: if you are near a nuclear blast try and get out of the area.

Going nuclear part one

If you’re arguing with someone about ending the Senate filibuster as a tool of the legislative process and they trot out any arguments that sound like these you’ll be well-informed enough to rebut them.

Besides, Bill Frist isn’t as opposed to the filibuster as he claims.

Bush’s Bubble Burst

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

You gotta hand it to our media. They certainly know how to ignore a good story.

As I was telling a friend of mine, this is exactly the sort of thing that I rely on the Internet and the blogosphere for: what did Bush say to those Dutch kids? C’mon! You’ve got to be out there somewhere, and one of you has to have access to a blogging engine! Post it in the comments on the blog I linked to or on mine! I’d love to hear it.

Ironies and cronies

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Is the irony of this lost on absolutely everyone? Donald Rumsfeld warning people about stacking the ranks of government positions with one’s “cronies”?

I might have to agree with Mr. Rumsfeld there:

Lack of confidence or corruption in government would be “unfortunate”.

Yup, it sure is.
