Arrested for resisting arrest

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

So this 11-year-old girl is hit with a water balloon… naturally, she picks up a rock and throws it at her attacker.

After police respond with three cars and a helicopter she is arrested for resisting arrest (she scratched an officer) and is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. You can read more here.

Okay, admittedly it was a two-pound rock; but the boy’s forehead was only “cut”, not “bashed in with brain showing.” She’s going to be under probation for six months. She was charged with a felony! Does this make any sense at all?

A friend of mine suggested that it could be gender politics: she was too tomboyish for local officials and a male child wouldn’t have the book thrown at them for doing the same thing. Maybe I need another angle on this but this sounds like a huge overreaction to me.
